I agree... the graphic looks good. Perhaps in the notes section we should detail what the various properties/venues do... or their role in accomplishing objectives?
And dashboard (for monitoring/reporting details looks good also.
I like the visual but do think we need to explain it, especially our recos for initial social media channels...and expectations for Directors who "pick" them as theirs...that is, what they'll have to submit to Wikipedia is quite different than a tweet...finally, the graphic is a bit fuzzy in parts...is the green box USB-related, and just to its right, above Facebook...what's that?
I agree with Diane, Megan was in here when I was looking at this and at face value had a hard time understanding what we were getting at until I explained it to her.
So, if the man in the middle represents the USB voice (i.e., USB Directors), the various social tools represent the network nodes within which conversation takes place, and the outer groupings represent the 1000's of affinity voices...does that make it clearer?
The green box in the cart represents the USB website as a recommended social tool for enabling the conversation/message.
The groupings of faces around the outside reflect the various nodes where people congregate around sustainability...some will participate on YouTube AND flickr...others might only be reached via Twitter.
and yes, the chart reflects the actual recommended social venues for our proposal...so YouTube would require a video format, twitter a series of 145-character messages, etc.
I believe the center picture confused her in that she initially thought it was a picture depicting the "average" farmer today and did not fully understand how Facebook or YouTube would influence them but once I went through and explained that what we were looking at would be more like the "end" result versus the starting off point she seemed to understand it better.
Start with the USB voices in the center (thats a graphic from thier website)...build the emnating arrows outward, with the arrows moving through the social tools to the network nodes (affinity groups)...and then building the arrows among the nodes?
Yes. A build, as decribed will help. Also, for what it's worth, the RFP requested that speaker's notes be included in PPT, so we may still want to provide the narrative. Good work, Spidey.
Cool. Should the center be a graphic representing our agregate website/blog since that's really the source for all the outbound communication (rather than a person or people)? Just a thought.
Also, Wes suggested a survey of USB directors and/or ASA members to gauge their awareness, understanding and views on the sustainability intiative. In the spirit of hitting the ground running with the USB aggregate sustainability website/blog, would we want to use it to facilitate a survey and as part of the trial run experience. Thoughts...
I like the chart, and I've been waaay out of the conversations, but are we missing the social networking that's happening at the sustainability and green sites? Wouldn't we be trying to influence the conversation there? Are those sites too left and right where we might not be able to create allies?
I like it. I think this is the approach we are looking for.

ReplyDeletealso...should we assume they have messaged/branded video ready?

ReplyDeleteAshley: Can you post how you described it to Megan?

ReplyDeleteIt's a thought, but wonder how much "organizational" representation we want to communicate vs the notion of groundswell.
